This year’s Global Media and Information Literacy Week (October 24th to 31st) is focusing on “The New Digital Frontiers of Information: Media and Information Literacy for Public-Interest Information.” This theme underscores the growing importance of navigating the vast digital landscape responsibly and critically.  

In today’s interconnected world, information is readily available at our fingertips. However, the abundance of information also brings challenges. Misinformation, disinformation, and “fake news” can spread rapidly, confusing and misleading people. To combat these challenges, media and information literacy (MIL) skills are essential.  

Media and Information Literacy empowers individuals to:

• Access information critically: Evaluate the credibility and reliability of sources.
• Understand and analyze information: Decipher complex information and identify biases.  
• Create and share information responsibly: Produce accurate and ethical content.

During this week, various events and initiatives are being organized worldwide to promote MIL. These include workshops, seminars, online courses, and campaigns. The goal is to raise awareness, educate the public, and empower individuals to become informed and responsible digital citizens.
