As December dawned and the Christmas joy started spread into the world, the International Service Avenue of the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya was getting ready to celebrate Christmas in their own unique way. The inspiration struck from the last years’ virtual project for Christmas, Ho Ho Fest, and the idea of holding a similar virtual Christmas fest suited the aims of the International Service Avenue well, due to its ability to bring both local and foreign communities together, surpassing boundaries.
International Service Avenue of RAUOK took the initiative for the project and invited two more collaborators, the Rotaract Club of Katugasthota Region and the Rotaract Club of University of Uva Wellassa. All three clubs worked as a well-oiled machine showing how Christmas brings people together, to bring success to the project. Each club gathered a capable Organizing Committee and shared the duties of organizing and promoting the event.
The first meeting of the Organizing Committee of RAUOK was held on the 14th of December 2023. Here, the name of the event, Merry Zoommas- a clever blend of words, Christmas and Zoom was established. Then the International Service Avenue of the Rotaract Club of Katugasthota displayed their creativity by designing a creative logo for Merry Zoommas. After several meetings where all three clubs brainstormed together, an agenda for Merry Zoommas took shape and finally the date and time of the event was decided.
Merry Zoommas the ultimate Christmas fiesta started at 8.00 PM on 27th of December 2023 via Zoom platform to the joy of everyone. After the pleasant speeches of encouragement and well wishes from the International Service Directors of the clubs, the Christmas celebration finally began. First, the touching Bible reading, followed by Christmas quizzes conducted by RAUOK, soulful live and virtual carol singing performed by all three clubs and charades overseed by RACUWU outdone the night. The participants happily took part in Christmas games and the winners were gifted. They expressed their happiness in joining the event, the bonds they formed and the unforgettable experience Merry Zoommas presented them. At last, Merry Zoommas came to an end, the joy of the night still in the air. The International Service Avenue of the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya along with its two collaborative clubs wrapped up the event, patting one another on their backs on a project well done, heart full of memories of Merry Zoommas.
