Rotaract Journey of Rtr. Navindya Hettiarachchi

I started my Rotaract journey in my second year of university. At the time, I was simply looking for a meaningful extracurricular activity, something that aligned with my love for social service. Without thinking twice, I joined Community Service Avenue, because giving back to the community had always been close to my heart.

The very first project I joined was “Swabhasamudra,” an ocean and biodiversity conservation initiative. I was selected as an ER coordinator, and honestly, I had no idea how much it would change me. That project became a turning point in my life. I not only learned so much but also made amazing friendships with people from different faculties—people I would’ve never met otherwise. Our organizing committee was incredible. The bond we had was something special, and I’ll always be thankful to the three community service directors who led us with so much passion and heart.

Not long after, I was given the opportunity to become a Team Leader for the Community Service Avenue and led the project “Jingle Bells.” This was a Christmas celebration we organized for children’s home, and to this day, it’s one of the most heartwarming experiences I’ve had. Seeing the joy in those kids’ eyes reminded me exactly why I joined Rotaract in the first place.

Another project I deeply value is “Ignite Sri Lanka 1.0.” It taught me so much and gave me experiences I’ll carry with me for a lifetime. It wasn’t just about completing tasks, it was about learning, growing, and connecting with people who shared the same passion.

Then came “Rota Tomorrow,” a project that truly tested and shaped me. I was a Team Leader for one of the teams there, and while we faced a lot of obstacles, we managed to pull through. It was tough, but so rewarding. That project made me realize my true potential. I was humbled and proud to be recognized as the 2nd Runner-Up for Most Outstanding Team Leader at the Rota Tomorrow Awards. It’s a moment I’ll never forget.

As the new Rotaract year began, I decided to apply for the Board of Directors, and I was selected as the Co-Director of the Club Services Avenue. This role brought a new set of responsibilities and opportunities. We organized events like the 15th Installation Ceremony, Christinzel, and Rota Wasantha Udanaya 2025. What made it all even better was the team I worked with, new members full of energy and enthusiasm, who made everything smoother and more enjoyable.

Looking back, these two years in Rotaract have been nothing short of amazing. More than the titles and projects, it’s the memories, friendships, and growth that I cherish the most. Rotaract has become a part of who I am, and I’m so grateful for every moment of this journey.
