This year, Rota Wasantha Udanaya 2025 unfolded with even greater vibrancy and grandeur, bringing undergraduates together in a kaleidoscope of culture, tradition, and joyful memories.
Organized by the Club Service Avenue of the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya, Rota Wasantha Udanaya 2025 was more than just a celebration of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, it was a heartfelt homage to Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage and a powerful expression of unity and diversity.
Held on April 5, 2025, at the scenic Polhena Ground, the event witnessed a spirited gathering of Rotaractors, non-Rotaractors, and students from all faculties, each one ready to embrace tradition, connect with friends, and make unforgettable memories.
A Day Illuminated by Tradition
The festivities began with a beautiful New Year ceremony that honored time-honored rituals, such as boiling milk, a symbol of prosperity and fresh beginnings. As the milk boiled over under the open sky, a day filled with smiles, laughter, and camaraderie started.
True to tradition, a lively array of Awurudu games captured the spirit of the New Year. Kana Mutti Bindeema had blindfolded participants trying to smash clay pots amidst cheers and laughter, Tug of War tested the strength and teamwork of spirited teams, Lime-and-Spoon Races, Kotta Pora battles, and many more classic games added energy, excitement, and nostalgic charm to the day.
The open ground was alive with vibrant costumes, hearty laughter, and the enduring echoes of traditional beats, creating a mesmerizing celebration of culture.
A Symphony of Music, Dance, and Surprises
This year, the organizers gifted an extraordinary musical treasure to Rota Wasantha Udanaya, the launch of the original New Year-themed song “රොටා වසන්තේ“. Sung soulfully by Mahesha Sandamali, composed by Kisura Maneth from KM Studio, and penned by Arunodi Liyanarachchi, the song beautifully captures the essence of togetherness, blessings, and fresh beginnings.
As the song played across the grounds, the air shimmered with emotion, creating a heartfelt connection among all those present.
The day also saw lively dance performances, street dramas, and colorful cultural showcases that kept spirits soaring high. The beats of traditional drums and the sparkle of joyous dances made the event not just a feast for the eyes but also the soul.
Crowning the Royals of the New Year
One of the most anticipated moments of the day was the selection of the Awurudu Kumara and Awurudu Kumariya, the traditional prince and princess of the New Year celebrations.
After a spirited competition that combined beauty, tradition, and charisma, Asela Nimesh and Limisha Minomi was crowned as the Awurudu Kumara and Kumariya for 2025, radiating elegance and embodying the spirit of the festival.

From the careful planning stages beginning in January to the final flourishes on event day, every element was a product of passionate collaboration among over 30 organizing committee members, supported by a thriving Rotaract spirit.

Through vibrant PR strategies such as teaser videos, countdown flyers, TikToks, and behind-the-scenes reels, Rota Wasantha Udanaya 2025 built anticipation and created a buzz that lasted long after the event concluded.
