If someone asks you, “What is the purpose of being a Rotaractor?”, what would be your answer? For us, it would be serving humanity as much as possible. Therefore, as the International Service Avenue of RACUOK, we were able to find another opportunity to signify its validity and credibility by initiating the project “We Care”.
As a joint initiative which marks another twin club agreement between the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya and the Rotaract Club of Izmir Ekonomi, We Care was about aiding a selected community through donations. Firstly, an Organizing Committee (OC) which has unique potentials was formed and it led to the first OC meetup on 26th of February 2024. During these valuable hours, a proper Public Relations plan was confirmed with everyone’s support while focusing on fundraising activities and sponsorships. Moreover, it was everyone’s responsibility to find a community which needed some aid.
Taking a step forward, we were able to select Dharmaraja College Mahara Nugegoda as the community due to its economically challenged students. After a discussion with its principal, it was decided to donate stationery to 40 students from the primary section. Moreover, it was possible to collect some monetary donations from friends and SPC company agreed to give the needed stationery with a discount price. 26th of March 2024 was also an important day for all the OC members since it was possible to raise funds by selling popcorn around Kadawatha and Kiribathgoda.
As a result of the monetary donations and the fund-raised money, the necessary stationery was purchased easily, and it was confirmed to execute the project on 3rd of April 2024. After visiting the school, time was given to play some games with the students which made their faces smile. Its completion led to donating the purchased stationery to students which marked the execution of the project “We Care”. Realizing its immense aid to illuminate the lives of the students, the principal admired the humanitarian aid from the International Service Avenue of RACUOK.
Thus, we have taken another successful step towards humanity by initiating a wonderful project in collaboration with the Rotaract Club of Izmir Ekonomi, Turkey.
