Career Fair 2024: A Milestone of Excellence

Career Fair 2024, organized by the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya, with the support of the Career Guidance Unit, and chaired by our very own president, Rtr. Roshan Rathnayake, was awarded at the prestigious ROAR Awards by the Rotaract South Asia Multi-Districts Information Organization (RSA MDIO). This recognition celebrates the outstanding efforts and dedication of everyone involved in making Career Fair 2024 a resounding success.

Career Fair 2024, in its 15th year, has undoubtedly helped undergraduates to turn their dreams into reality, setting them on a path to professional success. This award stands as a testament to the dedication and hard work that went into making Career Fair 2024 an exemplary event, highlighting its profound impact on the professional journeys of countless students.

Open Days spanned from February 1st to March 20th, featuring interviews conducted by prominent companies such as MAS Holdings, Nestle, Ceylon Cold Stores, Brandix, Baur & Co. Pvt Ltd, Hayleys Fentons, DFCC Bank, and Unilever. These sessions were a testament to the fair’s impact, with an average of 320 CVs submitted per day and over 700 interviews conducted in total. This impressive turnout highlights the fair’s effectiveness in connecting students with potential employers. Career Fair 2024 provided students with the chance to explore their passions and secure internships, paving the way for fulfilling careers.

The workshops were another highlight, offering undergraduates essential insights into the corporate world. Led by industry experts like Mr. Lahiru Gunarathne from MAS Holdings, Ms. Nadisha Deheragoda from Brandix, and Mr. Rolf Blaser from Baur & Co. Pvt Ltd, these sessions covered topics such as interview techniques, CV writing, corporate etiquette, and personal branding. With an average attendance of 200 students per workshop, these sessions equipped participants with valuable knowledge and confidence for their future endeavours.

The Career Development Forum featured two engaging panel discussions. The first, titled ‘How to be a Successful Freelancer,’ saw the inauguration of the ‘UOK Freelancers’ Club’ and the launch of the ‘Graduate Freelancer UOK’ website, fostering collaboration and skill development among freelancers. The second panel discussion, ‘The Impact of AI on Employment and Professional Growth,’ included insights from industry leaders such as Mr. Thilan Sampath, Ms. Zahara Ansary, and Prof. Ravi. These discussions were streamed on RACUOK’s YouTube channel, ensuring wider engagement.

The Career Fair Magazine not only showcased the success of Career Fair 2024 but also provided valuable insights into career prospects. It featured articles from professionals, event coverage, and exclusive interviews with industry leaders like Mr. Kishu Gomes and Mr. Janik Jayasuriya. The magazine also hosted the Career Fair ‘24 Article Competition, with the top articles prominently showcased.

Career Fair 2024 concluded on March 26th with a closing ceremony attended by Senior Prof. Nilanthi de Silva, Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya. Keynote speaker Ms. Shehani Fernando inspired attendees to pursue their career goals with unwavering passion and determination.

With each passing year, the legacy of the Career Fair grows stronger, inspiring future generations to reach for the stars.
