The 2025 Met Gala, held on May 5 at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, celebrated the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” paying homage to Black dandyism and its rich sartorial history. Co-chaired by Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, Pharrell Williams, A$AP Rocky, and Anna Wintour, the event showcased a fusion of fashion and cultural heritage.
The gala’s dress code, “Tailored for You,” encouraged attendees to explore Black tailoring traditions. Highlights included Zendaya in a Louis Vuitton zoot suit designed by Pharrell Williams, Colman Domingo’s dual Valentino ensemble honoring André Leon Talley, and Rihanna’s announcement of her third pregnancy in a Marc Jacobs outfit.
The event also featured a host committee comprising notable figures such as Janelle Monáe, Spike Lee, and Angel Reese. The accompanying exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” will be on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art from May 10 to October 26, 2025.
This year’s Met Gala also highlighted the growing presence of Asian celebrities on the global fashion stage. Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan made his first appearance at the Met Gala, becoming the first Indian male actor to attend the event. He wore a custom ensemble by Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, featuring a tailored, floor-length coat made from fine Tasmanian wool, accented with Japanese horn buttons. The outfit paid homage to both Black and Indian dandyism, traditions that redefined classic tailoring. Accessories included layered talismanic chains, a crystal-studded ‘K’ pendant, a diamond star brooch, multiple rings, and an 18k gold cane adorned with precious stones. Bollywood actress Kiara Advani also made her Met Gala debut this year. Other notable Asian attendees included Thai actress Sarocha Chankimha and Jennie of Blackpink, who returned to the Met Gala in a black-and-white Chanel ensemble with a top hat. The inclusion of these Asian celebrities underscores the Met Gala’s increasing global appeal and the importance of diverse cultural representation in fashion.
The 2025 Met Gala not only celebrated fashion but also honored the cultural significance of Black style, making it a night to remember.
