Project Mentora, a newly launched initiative jointly organized by the Editorial Avenue and the Regional Engagement Avenue, aimed to promote inclusive, accessible, and student-centered learning while empowering undergraduates through meaningful community engagement. Through a structured two-phase approach, the project sought to bridge educational disparities and create a lasting educational impact.
The first phase of the project focused on a specialized Mathematics Teaching Programme conducted at the Rathmalana Deaf School for students with hearing impairments from Grades 6 to 11. A key highlight of this phase was the launch of the “Swara” (ස්වර) Sign Language Awareness Video Series. Furthermore, a successful collaboration was established with the Sasnaka Sansada Foundation, enabling their volunteers to join the weekly Saturday teaching sessions and enhance the overall learning experience.

Building on the success of the first phase, the second phase expanded the project’s reach through an English Seminar conducted for G.C.E. Ordinary Level students of Webada Vidyadeepa School. The programme provided students with grammar short notes, model paper discussions, examination techniques, and the academic confidence required for their upcoming national examinations.
To support the implementation of the project, the organizing committee carried out several fundraising initiatives, including bookmark sales, food-selling campaigns, and sponsorship drives.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations teams maintained consistent promotional efforts through social media campaigns, awareness content, promotional videos, and volunteer appreciation features, enhancing the project’s visibility and outreach. Additionally, the project strengthened its digital outreach through the introduction of official Instagram and Facebook platforms, ensuring wider visibility, engagement, and continuous public communication throughout the project period.

Project Mentora concluded with a grand final event at the Rathmalana Deaf School, celebrating the achievements of the students and recognizing the unwavering dedication of the volunteers. The project left a lasting legacy of empowerment, inclusivity, and educational equity, creating a meaningful impact on both the students and the undergraduate volunteers involved. It stands as a testament to the power of collective effort in transforming education and fostering sustainable community impact.
