Here’s how the story begins… In my first year, I worked as the PR and Marketing LB member of the Leo Club. During that time, as we were doing various projects, Dimithri Akka from our senior batch saw the PR materials and asked me if I’d be interested in joining Rotaract. Honestly, I didn’t have any idea about it. However, for fun, I said yes, I’d come. By then, about half of that term was over. After that, Dimithri Akka took me into the Rotaract club as a prospective member.
So, even then, I had no idea why I was being joined into Rotaract in the middle of a term. It was while being a member that the club’s biggest project was about to start, named Ignite Sri Lanka. So, while this was happening, Dimithri Akka told me to apply for the PR coordinator position. So, I applied. However, I hadn’t worked on any projects with the people in this club before. Anyway, after an interview, I was selected. I got the opportunity to work with this project as the Head of PR for the club’s previous PR coordinators. That project had meetings almost every day. 😂

We all got together and created many things like videos and flyers, and successfully carried out the PR for the project. During that time, I met Vihaga Ayya, Dinithi Akka, and Vikshi Akka, along with the others involved in that project, and we did the work beautifully.
As the term was ending, Dimithri Akka told me to apply for the Director Board. So, I didn’t have a big idea about it. However, I had worked at least slightly on the Ignite Sri Lanka Project with the others who were applying for the Director Board. So, with a group of super talented individuals, I then got the opportunity to work as the Co-Director of the Digital Media Avenue in the next term, under the leadership of President Vihaga Ayya.

So, what I have to say to others is, if opportunities arise, definitely take them; even if not today, you will receive their rewards someday.
Viva La Rotaract!
