Empowering the Future: International Girls in ICT Day

International Girls in ICT Day is celebrated every year on the fourth Thursday of April, aiming to inspire and empower girls and young women to pursue education and careers in information and communication technology (ICT). Initiated by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), this global movement highlights the critical need to close the gender gap in the tech industry and promote equal opportunities in the digital world.

In today’s technology-driven society, digital skills are essential—not only for future careers but also for everyday life. Despite this, women remain underrepresented in STEM fields, especially in ICT, due to persistent stereotypes, limited access to resources, and lack of encouragement. International Girls in ICT Day seeks to change this by offering girls early exposure to tech-related fields and showcasing the exciting and impactful opportunities available in the sector.

Around the world, schools, organizations, and tech companies mark this day with workshops, hackathons, mentoring sessions, and inspirational talks. These activities help build confidence, creativity, and curiosity among young girls, encouraging them to explore areas like coding, robotics, cybersecurity, and data science.

The theme for 2025 focuses on “Leadership,” emphasizing the importance of nurturing future female tech leaders who can drive innovation and inclusivity in the digital era. By supporting girls today, we invest in a future workforce that is more diverse, dynamic, and ready to solve the world’s challenges through technology.

International Girls in ICT Day is not just a celebration—it’s a movement that calls on all of us to create a digital world where every girl can imagine, innovate, and lead.
