Rotaract Journey of Rtr. Mahen Santhush

I started my Rotaract journey as a prospect member. And from that point on, there’s a big story to tell. The Rotaract Club became a major part of my university life a place where I found a family full of big-hearted friends. They were like brothers and sisters to me. The memories made within the club are incredibly special and will stay with me forever.

I will always be grateful to Wickshi Kalani akka for giving me the opportunity to join as a prospect member. I started my journey with the project Adaren Waruwak. When I joined that project, I didn’t know anything about Rotaract. The only thing I knew was that I had to make the required video materials. Apart from that, I didn’t know anything about the club or its procedures. Then, in the third phase of Adaren Waruwak, I met Vihanga ayya, the Vice President at the time. That was also the first time I met Rtr. Kusal Jayasooriya, who later became one of my closest friends in the club. Vihaga ayya invited me to join Project Abhiman as a PR Coordinator.

After that, I got the chance to work in the Rota Tomorrow Executive Committee. It was a challenging task, but I believe I gave it my best. I must thank Disandi akka and Rtr. Thanuj Abeyrathne for giving me the opportunity and guiding me through that journey. I especially want to say something about Thanuj he was the closest person to me in the club. A great man with so many talents.

Then came Ignite Sri Lanka 1.0, where I first volunteered as a PR Coordinator and was later appointed as a Team Coordinator for the Education Sector. When it comes to Ignite, I must talk about the Community Service Avenue, it’s still the avenue I love the most. Ignite brought me tons of beautiful memories. I met many big-hearted friends and gathered countless experiences. After that, I worked on the Swaba Siripa project, and that wrapped up my journey for the term 2023/24.

I must also mention Roshan Rathnayake ayya. I met him during the Ignite Sri Lanka project, and he became a role model in my Rotaract journey. I learned many things by simply observing how he worked and handled situations. He is one of the most humble and soulful people I’ve ever met.

After that term, I applied to the Board of Directors for the term 2024/25 and was selected as the Co-Director of the Digital Media Avenue, where the new chapter in my journey begins.

At first, I wasn’t sure DM was the right fit for me. I wasn’t the kind of person who liked to sit for hours making flyers or videos. But then I realized I could do that job while also continuing my passion. In the DM Avenue, I must talk about Delishia and Avishna. Without Delishia’s unwavering support, I wouldn’t have been able to do my part. She gave her 100% and helped build an environment where work flowed smoothly. And Avishna, he’s a creative soul with a taste like mine. When we were together, it was always full of laughter and joy.

In DM, I came up with the concept of building a media unit for the club. That led to the initiation of Project MediaSpark. It wasn’t a full success, but I believe we laid the foundation for something that could greatly benefit the club’s future. As they say, failures are the best way to learn, and I truly learned a lot from that experience.

Apart from DM, I believe I gave my best to the club, and the club gave me back so much more. For me, the club wasn’t just a club, it was a place where I could escape my problems, a place where I found peace and happiness. I gained a lot and even met the most precious person in my life because of the club.

I did everything I could for the success of the club and supported my fellow directors the best I could. In return, I received support that words cannot describe. There are so many unforgettable memories behind each project the club initiated.

Later, I had the opportunity to mentor a team in the Rota Tomorrow competition. It was a valuable chance to prove myself through the project EvolveX. I think we did something special. I must thank Team leaders and the entire organizing committee for their hard work and support.

And if I have to say something about Vihanga ayya he was not just the President of the club to me. When I first met him, I didn’t even know he was the VP. He was so humble and friendly. Since then, he has helped me with both club-related and personal issues. Thank you for everything, ayya. And to Adeesha ayya, thank you for the guidance. Without you, the club wouldn’t have reached these heights.

So that was my journey, a journey full of ups and downs but zero regrets. I will never forget how I started, who gave me the push to begin, and all the amazing people who stood by me.

Most importantly, the people around me the Executive Committee members, my fellow Board members thank you. I’m forever grateful for this family and the everlasting memories we made. To all the team leaders thank you for the support. I wish I could mention every single one of you by name.

Once again, all I have to say is Thank you and I’m forever grateful. Viva la Rotaract!
