TECHXPO 2025: A Groundbreaking Leap Into Sri Lanka’s Digital Future

In a trailblazing move that redefined the academic landscape, the University of Kelaniya hosted its first-ever grand technology exhibition and workshop series titled TechXpo 2025. Organized by the passionate and visionary team at the IT Avenue of the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya (RACUOK), this landmark event marked the debut phase of the Eduකේ ත initiative, a project dedicated to nurturing digital empowerment, technological literacy, and innovative thinking among youth.

Drawing in a vibrant crowd of over 520 participants, including more than 120 school students from across the Western Province, undergraduates from multiple faculties, tech enthusiasts, and interns, TechXpo offered an immersive and interactive platform for learning, creating, and sharing. The event featured two main exhibition categories: one for school-level participants and another for university-level competitors. These teams presented groundbreaking work in fields such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR), Gaming, Internet of Things (IoT), Machine Learning, and Robotics.

The exhibition space was transformed into a digital wonderland. Visitors experienced fully functional smart home systems, AR-enhanced learning applications, battle bots controlled by open-source microcontrollers, and real- time facial recognition software. Among the most inspiring projects were an AI-powered sign language translator, a gamified educational platform for schoolchildren, an environmental monitoring system developed by university students.

One of the highlights of the day was the audience-driven Most Popular Project award. The crowd enthusiastically explored all booths and voted for their favorite exhibit in real time. The award went to a university team that presented a smart disaster alert system. The winning team received a special cash prize and a trophy, recognizing their innovation and meaningful social impact.

To enrich the learning experience further, TechXpo hosted four expert-led knowledge-sharing sessions. These included a practical breakdown of the software development lifecycle by undergraduates, an inspiring presentation on Artificial Intelligence and its applications, a detailed talk by Mr. Maninda Edirisooriya from the University of Moratuwa covering AI, IoT, Robotics, and Machine Learning, and an essential session on cybersecurity and online safety led by Mr. Anjula Handapangoda.

The success of TechXpo was further elevated through the support and collaboration of leading knowledge partners, including:
