Writing Maze 3.0 stands as one of the flagships projects of the Editorial Avenue of Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya. Organized under the objective of promoting reading and fostering a literary community among the university, this initiative came to life with a grand launch of a poetry collection and a glamorous open mic evening.
Named “Mansion of the Mind”, the collection dealt with the intricate workings of the human mind following the concept of architecture. In collaboration with 20 Rotaract and Interact clubs, the book was brought to life with each club contributing one poem to enrich this poetry collection. It is important to take a moment to express our gratitude to our mentoring partner, Poe3LK who joined with us for the proofreading process and Revoux, the media unit of the Rotaract Club who supported us in designing the book. Mansion of the Mind was nothing short of a masterpiece, which was made possible with the contribution and support of everyone who took part in it.
Following the book launch, a dazzling open mic evening was held where emerging writers and poets shared their voices surrounded in a very warm and intimate setting.
The night was alive with the appearance of many poetic souls. The event was graced by the presence of the author of ‘Kata Katha” who also won the 32nd Gratiaen Price Winner, Mr. Savin Edirisinghe. His words left a significant impact on everyone present. Other than the chief guest, the presence of the senior treasurer of the club Prof. Ravi Dissanayake, the President of the club, Rtn. Rtr. Himantha Sayuru, the Immediate Past President Rtn. Rtr. Vihanga Divyanjana, the Secretary of the club, Rtr. Delishia Fabian, the Co –Presidents and Co – founders of Poe3LK, Sachinthani Ketakumbura and Inura Dewasinghe contributed to the overall success of the event.
The main cause of this literary initiative should not be forgotten. All the sales of the published book proceeds towards funding a library of an underprivileged school. With the unwavering support of the poets who contributed and all the participants of the event, a significant amount of donations were successfully raised. This effort not only celebrated literature but also extended its impact beyond the university, fostering knowledge and opportunity for young minds.
This event came alive with the immense support of the Organizing Committee which was led by the directors of the Editorial Avenue. The vision, commitment and dedication of the entire Editorial Avenue made sure that starting from the compilation of the book to the final launch was carried out seamlessly. Behind the scenes, a passionate Organizing Committee worked tirelessly throughout 6 months to bring this concept to life.
Following the book launch, as planned the profit gained from the sales of the books were donated to Vidyadeepa Maha Vidyalaya, Webada. An amount of Rs. 20,000 was donated to enhance its library facilities, creating a better learning environment for its students. As a meaningful way to honor the project’s legacy, copies of the book were donated to the Colombo Public Library and the Library of University of Kelaniya as well.
Writing Maze 3.0 stands as a true testament of the celebration of literature, and creativity brought to life through the collective efforts of passionate individuals. More than an event, this is a journey that the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya will be taking forward with the same passion and creativity in hopes of leaving a legacy of inspiration and upliftment.
