Health is more than a state; it’s a pledge to nurture, safeguard, and foster the balanced equilibrium of our bodies and minds, securing a heritage of vitality for the future.
Driven by a profound dedication to community health, Team 7, Elysium of the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya, initiated a tremendous project known as “Argoya”. Aligned with the spirit of the Rota Tomorrow Competition, this health-oriented initiative unfolded in three strategic phases, each crafted to ensure well-being and resilience within our community.

In the inaugural phase of Project Argoya, on the 21st of February 2024, the team’s vision unfolded at Mahagama Sekara Vidyalaya, Randawana, where a dental camp for school children took place. Partnering with healthcare professionals and leveraging a mobile dental camp, the team provided crucial dental care to 60 students, addressing their dental issues and promoting oral health awareness. Furthermore, recognizing the importance of proactive care, the team donated a comprehensive care package to each student, equipping them with essential tools and knowledge to maintain their dental health beyond the camp. This holistic approach not only addressed immediate needs but also empowered the students to take care of their well-being. The success of this phase underscored the value of collaborative efforts and proactive healthcare interventions. Through dedication and compassion, Team 7 set the stage for the subsequent phases of Project Argoya.

In the second phase of Project Argoya, the initiatives were continued by focusing on the well-being of pregnant mothers from low-income backgrounds on the 9th March,2024. With the help of the MOH, Pugoda, the team organized an essential awareness session aimed at empowering 25 pregnant mothers with essential knowledge and support. Led by Dr. K.R.N. Harshani, Senior Lecturer, Department of Library and Information Science, University of Kelaniya, the session shed light on the importance of maternal mental health during pregnancy. Additionally, recognizing the practical needs of these mothers, the team donated essential tools for small children, ensuring that they have access to necessary resources for their infants’ care and development.
The second phase of Project Argoya reaffirmed Team 7’s commitment to comprehensive community health, leaving a lasting impact on the well-being of low-income pregnant mothers and their families.
In the third phase, a Dengue awareness program was organized at Janajaya Model Primary School, Ranala. Collaborating closely with the local Medical Health Officer, the team provided essential guidance on dengue prevention, empowering students with knowledge on how to combat this prevalent threat effectively.

Moreover, a Shramadana campaign was organized at the school premises. This collective effort not only promoted cleanliness and hygiene but also inculcated a sense of responsibility towards maintaining a dengue-free environment. Also, some essential medical tools were donated to the school under this phase.
In conclusion, Project Argoya stands as an epitome of hope and empowerment, showcasing the impact of dedicated team members coming together for the betterment of community health and well-being. Through its vital initiatives, “Arogya” has not only enriched the lives of those it has touched but has also elevated the stature of the Rotaract Club, adding an elegant dimension to its commitment to service and compassion.
