As a proud member of the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya, I had the opportunity to serve to society as a volunteer, learn, and build lifelong friendships. Joining the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya in 2021-22 under Rtr. Kisal Ekanayake’s leadership was inspiring. I started with a lot of energy and learned a lot. Now, as Co-Director of the Club Service Avenue for the 2023-24 term, I’m happy to share my experiences and give back.

Being a Rotaractor has involved many projects and events that made a positive community impact. Some of these include Soyuru Piyapath where I was the team leader, and other SLmade, Project Neela, 13th and 14th Installation Ceremonies, Down The Wicket cricket tournaments, Christinzel Christmas parties, Rotrolead leadership workshops, Rota Wasantha Udanaya, Peasanam and Rota Tomorrow. I’ve learned so much from these experiences, including how to work as a team and take on responsibilities that have helped me grow as a leader. As Club Service Avenue team leader 2022-23 term , I learned valuable skills like communication, delegation, and working with different people.
Leading the Soyuru Piyapath project as the team leader to promote basic education and literacy was especially fulfilling. My team organized awareness sessions, donated library and school equipment, and even held literature competitions. Seeing the positive impact on young minds was amazing! We could achieve the title Winner of the RotaTomorrow Awards 2022-23. My life with the Rotaract Club has been a great experience. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to develop leadership skills, meet like-minded people, and make a difference in their community.
Finally, looking back on my university years, the sense of purpose and belonging I found with the Rotaract Club will be something I cherish the most.
