The Member Relations Avenue of the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya hosted its highly anticipated annual event, Rota Romp’24 on 19th October 2024 at the Cyril C. Mathew Grounds. The event attracted participants from all avenues of the club, showcasing their energy and enthusiasm. The venue was buzzing with excitement, as attendees engaged in a variety of activities designed to foster friendship and collaboration among all participants.

Planning for Rota Romp ‘24 began months in advance, with dedicated directors Rtr. Himas Faizal, Rtr. Kaveesha Dissanayake, Rtr. Sanduni Charundya and the members of the organizing committee working tirelessly to ensure a memorable experience for everyone involved. From fundraisings to the event day, the organizing committee gave their fullest contribution and cooperation throughout the month of September to make this event a joyful fun day for the members.
The theme of this year’s was “Marvel”, and the event was held like a sports meet which each avenue given a specific marvel character and a team name by the organizing committee of Rota Romp ’24.
The teams of Rota Romp ’24 were:
Thunder guardians (Thor) – Club Service Avenue
Mighty giants (Hulk) – Community Service Avenue
Blue sheilders (Captain America) – International Service Avenue
Web warriors (Spiderman) – Professional Development Avenue
Golden avengers (Iron Man) – Sports and Recreational Activities Avenue
Prior to the event day, the organizing committee conducted two pre-virtual online games to gain the member engagement for the event day.
The day of Rota Romp began with the welcome speech by the project chair Rtr. Navoda Gunarathna and the hosts for the day, Rtr. Amali Nilaksha, Rtr. Harini Nethara and Isuru Vidanapathirana carried out the proceedings. Then as guests for the day, Rtr. Sharan Balasubramaniam delivered a speech and as the resource person, Mr. Sanath Bandara, conducted a team building workshop by engaging members with a few games. After that event day continued with the hosts, to each team was given the opportunity to use their creativity, materials such as paint and fabrics provided by the organizing committee to create their own team flag.

With that, the hosts along with the assistance of the OC, began the 1st game of the day. This game was referred to as “Balloon Popping”. Here participants of each team were lined up and members should run to the other end, sit and pop the balloon, and run back. Winners were selected based on the least amount of time they have played. The hosts then conducted the second game of the day which was the “Aim the Target”. Here, 8 Rings were provided on the stick. Team members should stand one after the other and grab their hands. The first member picked a ring from the stick while grabbing the other person’s hand. After finishing that, players ran to the end of the line to end the task.

After that game, three exciting games called “lava walk”, “fill the bucket”, “ball throw” were held, meanwhile a lunch break also given. Then, A game for the organizing committee and a game called “Treasure Hunt” were held for the directors of the club. In the treasure hunt game, hosts announced the names of some random items in the area and the directors tried to find them and got back to a chair with the specified item with them. With that game, games were concluded for the day.

As the day came to an end, Rtr. Vihanga Divyanjana, the President of the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya, delivered few words about the event day highlights and the importance of being participating events. Next, the event reached its climax where the winning team of Rota Romp ’24 was announced. The winning team of Rota Romp ’24 was Team Hulk (Team Mighty Giants) which was led by Community Service Avenue. Team Captain America (Blue Sheilders) which was led by International Service Avenue was awarded as the Runners Up of Rota Romp ’24. Each avenue had the chance to have handful of presents for their achievements.
After the vote of thanks delivered by Rtr. Sanduni Charundya, the event was officially concluded remarking the end of an incredible fun day with a rocking DJ hour with music, lights, and lively ambiance created the perfect closing experience for Rota Romp ’24. All the participants left the venue with smiles on their faces and cherished memories in their hearts.
Rota Romp ’24 was truly a celebration of unity, energy, and joy. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of the directors and the organizing committee, the event ran smoothly, making it an enjoyable experience for everyone who attended. This year’s success has set a high standard for future editions of Rota Romp, and it’s clear that this event will continue to be a highlight on the Rotaract Club calendar for years to come!
