Finwave 2025: Empowering Financial Literacy Across Generations

Finwave 2025, organized by the Finance Avenue of the Rotaract Club of the University of Kelaniya, was a dynamic two-phased initiative crafted to enhance financial literacy among both university students and schoolchildren. The project aimed to instill practical financial knowledge while promoting responsible financial behavior across different age groups.

Phase 1: University-Based Forum and Quiz Competition

Phase 1 was held on April 3rd, 2025, at the Sunil Shantha Auditorium. The event began with an engaging Investment Forum featuring two renowned speakers Dr. Roshan Fernando from MasterMind Holdings and Mr. Kavinda Rajapaksha from Wealthy Minds Academy. The session, moderated by Rtr. Pruthivi Wijesiri, explored a range of key topics such as investment strategies, financial planning, and the evolving financial landscape in Sri Lanka.
Following the forum, a competitive Finance Quiz was held, attracting teams from across the university. After a challenging and intellectually charged session, Team Euphoria secured the winning title, while Team Fingineers were awarded the runner-up position. Cash prizes were presented to the winning teams, recognizing their knowledge and enthusiasm.

Phase 2: Financial Literacy for Young Minds

The second phase of Finwave 2025 focused on school-level financial education and took place at Nirmala Mariya Girls’ College, Ja-Ela. The session was led by Dr. Roshan Fernando and included an interactive talk on essential financial habits such as budgeting, saving, and managing expenses. Students actively participated in discussions and games, with prizes awarded by the Rotaract Club and Wealthy Minds Academy for correct responses, fostering enthusiasm for learning.

From initial brainstorming to on-ground execution, the project was carefully curated by the Finance Avenue. It successfully bridged university-level awareness and grassroots impact, showcasing collaboration with sponsors Wealthy Minds Academy and MasterMind Holdings. Their support helped elevate the quality of the sessions while making real-world finance accessible to all.

Finwave 2025 proved that financial literacy is not just a concept but a necessity, one that can be taught, celebrated, and passed on. Through two well-executed phases, the initiative empowered minds, inspired action, and set a new benchmark in meaningful youth-led projects.
