“අම්මා”
the warmest word my heart has ever known.
In every chapter of my life,
you become the person I need the most.
Sometimes my best friend,
listening to endless stories and little secrets.
Sometimes my older sister,
laughing with me through the simplest moments.
Sometimes my teacher,
guiding me gently when life feels uncertain.
I tell you everything
my happiness, my fears, my ordinary days
because somehow,
your words make every burden feel lighter.
And no matter how much I grow,
there will always be a part of me
searching for comfort in your voice,
peace in your presence,
and home in the word
“අම්මා.”

“Happy Mother’s Day to my Amma, my safe place and my biggest strength. 🤍 You are not just my mother, but also the friend who understands me even without words. No matter how hard life gets, you carry every burden quietly, fighting silent battles with a smile no one notices. Your strength, patience, and endless love inspire me every single day. Thank you for working so hard just to make our lives better, even when you are tired yourself. I hope one day I can give back even a little of the love and care you have always given me. I’m so lucky to call you my Amma. 🌷”
Rtr. Deepna Ileperuma – Sergeant at Arms 2025-26

“My mother is the quiet strength behind every step I take, the one who never doubted me and always believed in my dreams before anyone else did. She is not only my mother but also my dearest friend, someone with whom I share laughter, secrets, and a bond filled with endless love and understanding. People often say we look like sisters, and I smile because she truly feels like my closest companion in life. Her beauty shines not only in her appearance but also in her kindness, resilience, and the graceful way she carries every responsibility. Whether through her comforting words or the love she pours into every meal she cooks, she makes our home and my world feel warmer every single day.”
Rtr. Zamra Razeel – Senior Editor 2025-26

“It would be nearly impossible to pinpoint one exact fond memory with my mom since I have countless. One of my favorite memories takes me back to my childhood, watching her every day as she wore sarees to school. Growing up, I remember wanting to wear sarees everywhere simply because she did and wanting to do everything she did. It won’t be wrong to say that she has been my role model from day one until now.
I am aware that I will never be even half the woman she is. Her resilience, love and patience amazes me to this day. And I think if one day, I could become even a little like her, my life would be perfect. I love you so much Amma, more than you’d ever know.”
Rtr. Mandira Senevirathna – Co-Editor 2025-26

“In my world, there is a woman who feels like something out of a fairy tale, only more real, more magical and more powerful than any storybook character. She doesn’t wear a crown but she carries a kind of royalty in the way she loves. She is my mother, my first and best friend forever and my greatest love.
She has been the gentle magic in my everyday life, turning ordinary moments into something warm and meaningful. When I was lost, she became my light. When I was weak, she became my strength. It often felt like she had a quiet spell, one that could turn my tears into comfort and my fear into courage just by being there.
In her world of care, I always felt protected, like a child safe inside a castle built not of stone but of love. She never needed a wand to do miracles; her kindness was enough to heal everything I couldn’t say out loud.
And if my life is a story, then she is the most beautiful chapter, the one that makes everything worth reading until the very end.
“Amma, no matter how far life takes me, my heart will always find its way back to you… my first friend, my best friend forever and my greatest love. Happy Mother’s Day Amma… 💗”
Rtr. Vimanshani Nanayakkara – Co-Editor 2025-26

“I honestly don’t know what I’d do without my Ammi. She’s the backbone of our family, my biggest strength, my safe place, and the person who’s always behind every single thing I achieve in life. No words will ever be enough to explain how much I love her or how thankful I am for everything she does for me every day.
She’s my shadow, my comfort, and the one person who understands me better than anyone else. No matter how old I get, she will always be home to me. I seriously can’t imagine life without her.
Forever proud to be hers 💗
Happy Mother’s Day, Ammiii 🌸
I love you so much.
Rtr. Nimthara Weerasinghe – Co-Director – Club Service Avenue 2025-26

“If anyone asked me what the most precious thing in this world is; the one thing I cannot live without and could never leave behind, there would never be a doubt in my answer. It will always be my Ammi.
She is the strongest person I have ever known. From waking up early in the morning to cook the most delicious meals for our family, to managing a demanding 9-to-5 job as a Deputy Manager and still being the sunshine that keeps our home warm and happy, she is truly a superwoman.
Sometimes I wonder how she manages to do everything so perfectly, because honestly, I know I could never do it the way she does. No matter how tired she may be, she always carries love, strength, and kindness in everything she does.
Every moment with her feels beautiful. Her love is the purest form of comfort I have ever known. She is not just my mother; she is my safe place, my inspiration, and the heart of our family.
To my Ammi, thank you for being the reason our lives are filled with love every single day.”
Rtr. Chenuri Edirisuriya – Co-Director – Professional Development Avenue 2025-26

“To me, my mom is the most innocent soul I have ever seen. She just wants to hear us say, “Amme, hari rasai,” when we eat the food she makes. She’s such a cry baby, yet her strength is extraordinary.
She may not know what I’m going through, but whether I’m sad or happy, she always shows up with a plate of snacks saying, “Ara denna enna kalin meka kanna, oyata aran thibbe.” That kind of love is unmatched.
Amma is literally the most beautiful woman in the world. At first sight, people might even think she’s my akka.
If I didn’t have her in my life, I would probably be more of a villain than a lover girl. Her love softened me in ways nothing else ever could.
Her strength, love, and innocence make me love her more and more every single day. I truly hope she lives a long, healthy, and happy life.”
Rtr. Dinithi Abeywickrama – Co-Director – Community Service Avenue 2025-26

“To: Forever My First Home, My Mom
When I say “අම්මා,” tears come to my eyes without any reason. That’s because I can never truly put into words what you mean to me. If I start talking about you, I feel like I would never be able to stop, because of everything you have done for me.
I always count the days and cherish every moment with you. I love you endlessly, and I will always be in your debt. No matter what I do in this life, I could never fully repay all the love, sacrifices, and care you have given me.
I love you forever.
People may dedicate one day to mothers, but for me, my whole life is dedicated to you.
Happy Mother’s Day, Amma.
From: Your little daughter, who will always love you.”
Rtr. Chamodi Gamage – Co-Director – Community Service Avenue 2025-26

“පෙම්ක් පවති සසර ගණනක්
එදා මෙන්මයි නොවේ වෙනසක්
අම්මා කියන්නේ නොවේ නමක්
නොනිමි මිණි පහනක්…
අම්මා නුඹ දෑස මානේ ලෝකයයි මගේ….. ❤️”
Rtr. Vidushika Hansali – Co-Director – Sports and Recreational Avenue 2025-26

“Amma…
You are the quiet strength
behind every loud victory in our lives.
The hands that gave away comfort
just so we could sleep peacefully.
The heart that carried worries alone
but still smiled at us like the world was light.
You sacrificed in silence,
loved without conditions,
and somehow turned exhaustion
into warmth for all of us.
Amma,
you are the powerhouse of our family.
The calm in our chaos.
The reason we never truly fall apart.
And for me…
you are my safest place.
My comfort zone in human form.
The person who holds my fears so gently
until they no longer feel heavy.
No matter how old I grow,
one hug from you
still feels like healing.
Amma,
if love had a face,
if strength had a heartbeat,
if comfort could walk around the house barefoot
it would look exactly like you.
Rtr. Sulani Gunawardena – Co-Director – Public Relations Avenue 2025-26

“No matter how busy life gets with school, university, or work, coming home and talking with Amma about the little things in my day will always be one of the most comforting feelings. From funny school stories and random late-night conversations to the advice, laughter, and even the small scoldings filled with love, those moments have quietly become some of my most treasured memories. The way she listens after a long day, remembers the smallest details, and somehow makes every problem feel lighter is something truly special. Looking back, it’s not the grand moments I remember the most, but the simple everyday memories shared with Amma that mean everything to me.”
