Sometimes, a simple decision can change everything. For me, joining Rotaract at the end of my second year was one of those moments. I didn’t think too much about it. I just knew I had a passion for volunteering and helping others. After seeing the projects carried out by the club, I felt inspired to be a part of it. I didn’t know exactly what I was stepping into, but I was ready to learn.
When I joined through the second intake, everything felt new. I didn’t understand how the club worked or what to expect. I joined the Club Service Avenue, and my first project was Christinzel’24, where I served as a Membership Coordinator. As an introvert, this role was quite challenging. It required me to communicate, coordinate, and interact with many people, which was something I wasn’t used to.

One of the most challenging parts of this project was fundraising. It was my first time approaching strangers and starting conversations with a purpose. At the beginning, I felt nervous and unsure. But with time, I slowly gained confidence. Each interaction helped me improve, and I started to realize that I was capable of more than I thought. It was a mix of pressure, learning, and even fun. This experience taught me that real growth happens when you step out of your comfort zone.
As I continued my journey, I became part of Rota Wasantha Udanaya 2025, an annual Awurudu celebration. This project became one of the most memorable parts of my Rotaract experience. It was not just about organizing an event, it was about building connections and working together as a team.
One of my favorite memories is working late into the night on decorations with my team. We were tired, trying to finish everything on time, but we were also laughing and enjoying every moment. Those late nights created strong bonds between us. At the same time, balancing academics with Rotaract responsibilities was not easy. There were moments when it felt overwhelming, but it taught me how to manage my time and stay committed. When the project finally came to an end, seeing everything come together after months of effort gave me a great sense of pride and happiness.

As I became more involved, I took on new roles. I worked as the Membership Coordinator of Kelani Hendawa 2025, joined Ignite Sri Lanka 2.0 as a Team Coordinator, and later served as the Secretary of Project Sandahana under Rota Tomorrow 5.0. Each of these experiences helped me grow, improve my skills, and gain confidence.
A major turning point in my journey came in my third year, when I was selected as the Co-Director of Member Relations Avenue. This was one of the proudest moments for me. With this role came a lot of responsibility, from registering members to connecting with them and ensuring their engagement. It was sometimes difficult to balance everything with academics, but it helped me grow as a leader.
As a director, we organized Project Rota Romp 26, which was designed to bring all Rotaractors together for a fun and engaging day. This was my first experience leading a team and organizing a large-scale event. It was challenging at times, but with the support of my team, we made it a success. It became a memorable experience for all of us.

Looking back, Rotaract has helped me grow in many ways. I developed skills like communication, teamwork, leadership, and time management. More importantly, it helped me become more confident and step out of my comfort zone.
Today, Rotaract is not just a club to me. It is a journey that helped me grow, connect, and discover myself.
A journey of growth, connection, and discovering the best version of myself.
