Down The Wicket ’22 was the fun-filled one-day cricket tournament organized by the Sports and Entertainment Avenue of Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya. It was held on the 5th of February 2022, at the Polhena ground with a large crowd of enthusiastic cricket lovers.
Down The Wicket, which was organized under the theme of ‘Together, Stronger’, indeed showcased itself with the participation of 30+ cricket teams entering the tournament from numerous areas. It included Rotaract teams such as West Phoenix, Kande Aiyyala, International Boys, Fernando and Sons, Golden Eagles, ACBT BOIS, Team Excellence, Disco, RACCH, RACUSJ Warriors and other wonderful teams like Golden Bulls, Super Challengers, Cricket Hitlers, Team Hotshots, Kuchi Kuchaiyo, Team Saibe, Red Wings, Golden Hearts, Ragama Vikings, Revolutionaries, Team HR, Kelani Strickers, Jpura Stallions, Galle fighters, Fire Bulls, Botverse, CS 69, Six Birds and Kelani Dragons.
This enthusiastic event was witnessed by the most humble and honourable invitees; DRC Rtn. PP PHF Marshad Barry and DRRN RTR.PP. Sathma Jayasinghe.
There were shivers of excitement throughout the event which was heightened with mixed voices of awes when winning and shouts when losing among the crowd. Subsequently, the teams were finally down to Team Excellence, taking over the championship and Team Saibe as the first runners up team. Team RACUSJ Warriors became the most popular team which was selected by a fair and open vote through our official Facebook page of Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya.
Cricket matches are not always about winning or losing, but they can be a place where you enjoy and share the amazing spirit of cricket itself. To make the day indelible in the Rotaract calendar, the fabulous organizing committee of Down The Wicket had opened up a gaming stall, food stalls, a DJ and even a photo booth to entertain our cricket lunatics who came to witness the day.
It should be truly appreciated; the immense sacrifice of the directors, the team leaders, the organizing committee and all the members of the Sports and Entertainment Avenue. A day of cherished memories was thus concluded with the hopes of bringing back again another spirited cricket tournament to the cricket lovers in the next year.
