International Women’s Day 2022

It is obvious that one day of a year isn’t enough to praise the women in the entire world, but this one day is important to remind the world of the women who carry strength, love, and fierce power in them to keep the world shining.

International Women’s Day is a globally accepted day to celebrate the scientific, social, economic, political, and national accomplishments of women. For centuries it has revolved around bringing forth gender parity in our world and so this day is highlighted in almost every country by people coming together to celebrate victories of women or rally for women’s equality.

The history of this women’s day began in multiple places around the world, however it’s importance was pushed into view for all eyes in the world in 1908, when 15,000 women in New York, USA went on strike over inadequate pay and deplorable working conditions in the factories. The Socialist Party of America had a National Women’s Day the following year, and a year later, a conference on equality and women’s right to vote was held in Copenhagen, Denmark. The idea expanded in Europe and became International Women’s Day (IWD) for the first time in 1911, with the United Nations declaring March 8th as International Women’s Day in 1975.

Generally, on women’s day children and men in various nations send gifts, flowers, or cards to their mothers, wives, sisters, and other women they know. Women’s rights, however, are at the center of International Women’s Day. Protests and demonstrations are taking place all over the world to demand equality irrespective of gender. Many women wear purple, a color associated with women who fought for the right to vote. The #MeToo and #TimesUp movements against sexual harassment have recently fueled marches and protests. The movement and theme for this year’s women’s day is #BreakTheBias, which focuses on building a world free of bias ideologies, discrimination, and stereotypes of women. There is still much work to be done in the area of gender equality. Women’s movements around the world, on the other hand, are ready to do that task and are gaining attention.

Though women’s day is celebrated once a year, the targets must not be ignored as the problems cannot be solved within a day. Thereby on this women’s day let us be humble and honored by all women around us and praise the phenomenal changes they’ve brought into this world by choosing to stand beside them.
