Rotaract Journey of Rtr. Tharindu Warnasooriya

Each of us in Rotaractor has our own unique journey and story to tell, so…This is mine!

I joined Rotaract in July 2020. When I was in my first year of university as a Bachelor in Business Management, I was invited to join the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya. I thought Rotaract was also just like any other school-based organization but over time, I realized that Rotaract was not just another traditional club.

Once I joined RACUOK, fortunately, I gained one of the greatest opportunities, of being a part of the organizing committee of the 11th Installation Ceremony of the Rotaract Club and I was able to participate in its events too. I think it is the most crucial turning point in my Rotaract journey as I was able to get to know the new Executive Committee and Board Members better and build a strong relationship with them. Through that, I was able to learn a lot about Rotaract and Our Club. After that, I got involved in a lot of club work and I started to love Rotaract.

I was fortunate enough to be involved as one of the organizing committee members in several massive projects before I was appointed as one of the Vice Presidents of the club for the Rotaract year 2021-22. Project ‘Eco-Heal’ is my all-time favorite, which was an environmental conservation project. I was one of the co-chairpersons of the project. From the start-up to the very end of the project, it was such a fun and exciting journey. And finally, ‘Eco-Heal; won the championship of Rota Tomorrow 2021.

‘AvoiDelta’ can be mentioned as another unforgettable project. It was organized by the Member Relations avenue purposing to control the Delta covid pandemic. We were able to make a massive social impact through it.

Other memorable projects that took place during my Rotaract journey are ‘Down the Wicket’, ‘AgriThon’, and ‘Rota Tomorrow’.

All the projects and beautiful memories in the past two years as a Rotaractor helped me grow as a multi-talented person. For me, Rotaract was a platform which helped me to grow and develop myself both personally and professionally while serving the community.

In a nutshell, here are five things I received from Rotaract. First, I gained opportunities to serve other people. Second, fun and entertainment. I enjoyed different club activities like fellowships, meetings, and team-building activities that strengthened our relationship with our co-Rotaractors. Third, gaining friends. Through RACUOK, I met lots of new friends. Fourth, Leadership. Rotaract helped me be a Great Leader thorough developing my leadership skills. Finally, Professional Development, as Rotaract helped me stretch out my abilities to the maximum and developed me to be the best version of myself.
