Warnayalam 2.0: Bridging Gaps Through Creativity

The Warnayalam 2.0 art exhibition, organized by the Regional Engagement Avenue of the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya, took place in April 2024. This project showcased the incredible talents of artists who are deaf or unable to speak, providing them with a platform to share their creativity with the wider community.

Building on the success of Warnayalam 1.0, this second edition expanded its reach and impact. The project team visited several schools for students who are deaf or can’t speak, with a primary focus on the Rathmalana Deaf and Dumb School. They spent time with the students, guiding them to explore their artistic abilities, which resulted in a collection of beautiful paintings, drawings, and sculptures.

The highlight of Warnayalam 2.0 was a grand art exhibition where these remarkable artworks were displayed for the public. This showcase not only celebrated the artists but also raised awareness about the capabilities of individuals with hearing and speech impairments.

Collaboration played a key role in the success of Warnayalam 2.0. The Regional Engagement Avenue of the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya partnered with the Rotaract Clubs of Gampaha, Kadawatha, Katugasthota Region, Pamunugama, Port City, University of Peradeniya and Wayamba University of Sri Lanka. This joint effort allowed the project to reach a wider audience and provided more opportunities for talented individuals to participate.

The event demonstrated our club’s commitment to community service and personal growth. It offered Rotaract members valuable experience in project management and mentorship, while giving the artists a chance to gain confidence and recognition for their skills.

Warnayalam 2.0 was more than just an art exhibition; it was a step towards a more understanding and appreciative society. The event celebrated diversity, talent, and the power of creative expression, showing that everyone’s abilities should be recognized and valued.
