World Human Rights Day

“So on this Human Rights Day, let us rededicate ourselves to the advancement of human rights and freedom for all, and pledge always to live by the ideals we promote to the world.”

– Barack Obama –

Human Rights Day is celebrated every year on the 10th of December 2022. This year the day is themed with the words “Dignity, Freedom, and Justice for All”. Human rights have become more recognized and guaranteed around the world throughout decades since the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted in 1948. Since then, it has served as the foundation for an expanding system of human rights protection, which now includes vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities, indigenous peoples, and migrants.

Freedom” is a word we enjoy at present, but do we really know that it was achieved with great struggle and sacrifice?

Anything which is free is so much violated and the true essence never remains the same. Today we enjoy the rights which we inherit from birth to death, regardless of where we are from, what we believe or how we choose to live our life.

We have the right to life and liberty, freedom from slavery and torture, freedom of opinion and expression, the right to work and education, and many more. Everyone is entitled to these rights, without discrimination but still, we witness so much of it being discremenated that it is unbearable and the society is just watching.

We have so many crime scenes, people are been abused despite their knowledge, murder, rape, molestation, harassment, drug addiction, pornography, illegal organ trade, prostitution, gambling, thieving and many more. Day by day the quality of humanity is just a word in the dictionary rather than in heart and practice. Humans are granted with so much but we end up creating new destructive efforts, threats, struggles and problems. Every day has its importance, this day emphasizes that we as humans have the right to do things correctly, to have a better community and be there for each other. Today’s society turns out to be selfish to an extent that community service has become an additional benefit for a job vacancy and children are living in the world of smartphones and digital technology. There is so much space for improvement and we are developing but is this development the exact development that the world is currently in need of?

There are people who still feed animals with their income and live for them, there are people living for orphans, elders and children, and there are people who love their job and devote themselves to the betterment of the society. A simple act can change a person’s life in many ways and using your rights to change each other’s lives would be my message for today.

“Use the rights wise to be wise”
