“Englighten”- To envision the pathway to learn English

“Englighten” is a project that was organised by the Community Service Avenue under the direction and guidance of the co-directors, Rtr. Thivangi Jayasinghe and Rtr. Chathura Athukorala from 3rd October till January 2020 whilst abiding to the UN sustainable Development Goal of “Quality Education.”

The project took place at Sri Chandrarathne Manavasinghe Vidyalaya, Boralesgamuwa which focused on teaching English language to students who will be sitting for the G.C.E Ordinary Level Examination this December.

Moreover, apart from the teaching sessions our fellow Rotaractors were able to assist with their English Day programme by helping them to practice their songs and other items lined up in their English day agenda.

The project was initiated under the direction of our Rotaractors from the Department of Teaching English as a Second Language who were also aided by competent and qualified undergraduates representing other faculties of the University of Kelaniya. The programme proceeded as with a participation of 10 members per day along with the directors of the Community Service Avenue.

The project, “Englighten” was a success since the project was able to accomplish its objectives at the end of the day along with an assortment of positive emotions spurred from the children and our young teachers who got an indelible experience by volunteering at this endeavour!

As Alfred North Whitehead once said,
“No one who achieves success does so without acknowledging the help of others”;”Englighten” would never have been a vision with a great success without the immense support and consent from the Principal of Sri Chandrarathne Manavasinghe Vidyalaya, Boralesgamuwa
and their teachers. With all due respect we highly appreciate them for giving us this opportunity!
