Special Olympics- Beach Carnival was a sports event held on the 9th and 10th of November 2019 at the Browns Beach, Negombo that intended a day full of fun and entertainment for children with special needs. It was organized by the ‘Special Olympics- Serendib Sri Lanka’.We, the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya was privileged to be a part of this worthy project through volunteering.

Students from special education schools of the island took part in the event locally. The speciality of the event was that it also facilitated the participation of foreign participants; a cricket team from Bangladesh.

Cricket matches and Netball matches for boys and girls respectively were held throughout the two days. It encouraged a day full of sportsmanship and a chance to build up better friendships through sports.

Further, many volunteers were seen at the event who helped to make this event a success. Volunteers from the Rotaract club of University of Kelaniya and Leo club of Colombo encouraged the students towards participating in the sports through responsible guidance.

The innocent smiles of the children truly added lasting memories in each of our lives!!!
