World Cleanup Day is an annual global campaign that unites millions of people from all over the world to address the critical issue of litter and waste. This remarkable day, observed on the third Saturday in the month of September, serves as a call to action for all of us to work together to clean up our planet. World Cleanup Day 2023 was commemorated on the 16th of September.
Highlighting our dedication to environmental responsibility, the Community Service Avenue of the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya, took the initiative to organize an innovative cleanup day campaign at the bustling Kelaniya Railway Station. This dedicated group of young volunteers took it upon themselves to transform their local community by eradicating litter and waste from this busy transit hub, where hundreds of commuters pass through every day. This cleanup day campaign played a pivotal role in maintaining cleanliness and preserving the beauty of our environment and also made every commuter’s journey brighter.
We were able to fill around 10 bags of litter, which turned the railway station into a better place for every commuter and passenger. We are utterly grateful for all the Rotaractors who contributed in this initiative in contributing to make the world a better place.
It is also worth noting that cleanup efforts like these have a significant impact on our environment and society. They help to minimize pollution and enhance community well-being. Furthermore, they instill a sense of responsibility and pride among participants, fostering a cleaner and more sustainable world for future generations.
As a result, World Cleanup Day 2023 serves as a powerful reminder that each one of us can make a difference by contributing to a cleaner, healthier and more beautiful planet for all. Together, we can leave a lasting positive impact on our environment.
