Suicide is the act of intentionally causing one’s own death. There are two types of reasons for suicide. That is psychological facts and sociological facts. There are, psychological factors such as depression, personality disorder, drug and alcohol abuse, bipolar mania, relationship breakdown, loss of job, isolation, sexual abuse or rape, cyber bullying etc. Also economic problems, unemployment, defeat, lack of understanding about taking medical advice etc.

World Suicide Prevention Day was established in 2003 by the International Association for Suicide Prevention in conjunction with the World Health Organization. On the 10th of September each year, it aims to focus attention on the issue, raises awareness among organizations, governments, and the public, giving a singular message that suicides are preventable. “Creating Hope Through Action” is the triennial theme for the World Suicide Prevention Day from 2021-2023. This theme is a reminder that there is an alternative to suicide and aims to inspire confidence in all of us and strengthen prevention.

There are lot of things that we can do to reduce and prevent suicide. One of the major obstacles to suicide prevention is the stigma surrounding mental health. Inform the society that it is good to meet psychiatrist and get treatment because mental health should be in a good state as physical health.

One crucial aspect of suicide prevention is recognizing the warning signs. If they talk about suspicious things like leave from society, talking about despair and giving away property, you should discuss with them cautiously.

Online challenges and cyberbullying have emerged as concerning factors contributing to youth suicide rates. Therefore, efforts should be made to provide digital literacy to all those connecting with digital technology. Because of the competitive education, children are under the big pressure. Schools and universities can implement programs that educate students about mental health, suicide risk factors, and where to seek help. Parents, should teach to children, about patience, winning and losing, helping others, right habits and the value of life from a young age. Also they should maintain the parent-child relationship without isolating the children.

This way we all can play a role in supporting those who are experiencing a suicidal crisis or those bereaved by suicide. Through that we can prevent suicide and enlighten the lives by creating hope.
