Génial – 2020

Language is the road map of a culture. It tells you where its people come from and where they are going. -Rita Mae Brown

Génial”, a 4-day online voyage on French culture and language, was organized by the International Service avenue of the Rotaract club of University of Kelaniya. Facilitated by our very own Rtr. Punsisi Liyanage, the sessions lasted 1 hour each, from 25th to 28th of July 2020.

Each session was divided into two parts, lesson and the culture. The lesson plan of day 1 consisted of the French alphabet, greetings, articles and the cultural session elaborated on the country profile of France. Punsisi and the team were able to conclude the first day successfully with amazing feedback from both the local and international audience.

On the second day, Rtr. Punsisi conducted the session on self-introduction and vocabulary. Antoine Pauwels from the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium made a guest appearance to talk about the country profile of Belgium. It was an extremely enjoyable session as Antoine told the audience about the specificity of famous Belgium chocolates.

Personal pronouns, verbs, time and useful phrases were taught in the first part of the session on the 3rd day. Day three was conducted successfully with an interesting session on French music, by our guest speaker for the day, Guillaume De Masfrand from CPE-Lyon.

On the final day, our audience learned about the casual phrases, conversations, French in English, colours and weather. Participants were able to get a glimpse of the French-speaking world, the cultural session conducted by our amazing guest speaker Dylan Coupa from the University of Strasbourg, France.

The project concluded successfully thanks to the  commendable effort of the organizing team and also the Rotaractors and non-rotaractors from around the world who took part in the event. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our guest speakers, Antoine Pauwels, Guillaume De Masfrand and Dylan Coupa for their immense contribution to Génial.

Till we meet again with another amazing project, Au revoir fellow readers.
