Healing Beyond Boundaries: Project Jeewadhara

Project Jeewadhara was initiated through Rota Tomorrow 6.0, an internal competition organized under the Membership Development Avenue of the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya. As part of this initiative, Team Wellora launched Project Jeewadhara under the theme “Securing Community Wellness Through Disease Prevention and Medical Care.” What began as a competition project soon evolved into a meaningful movement dedicated to spreading health awareness, improving emergency preparedness, and uplifting communities through compassion and care.

Conducted from December 2025 to April 2026, Jeewadhara focused on addressing important gaps in healthcare awareness and accessibility across schools, online platforms, and underserved communities. The project combined education, infrastructure development, and direct community engagement to create a lasting impact on the lives of many individuals.

One of the key strengths of Jeewadhara was the contribution of distinguished medical professionals who guided the initiative with their expertise. Esteemed doctors including Dr. Lakshi Kumaradasa, Dr. Vihanga Wickramasinghe, Professor Neelika Malavige, and Dr. Sathyani Wevita joined hands with the project, ensuring that every awareness effort carried trusted and valuable medical knowledge.

As part of its digital awareness campaign, six expert-led videos were released through social media platforms, reaching over 2,100 viewers. Topics such as dengue prevention, menstrual health, heart attacks, and digital overstimulation among children were discussed in a simple and engaging manner, allowing health education to reach beyond geographical boundaries and remain accessible even after the project concluded.

Jeewadhara also stepped directly into school communities by conducting health awareness sessions at Helena Wijewardana Balika Vidyalaya, St. Anthony’s Balika Maha Vidyalaya, and President’s College, Pilapitiya. More than 400 students participated in sessions focused on hygiene practices, disease prevention, and menstrual health awareness. These sessions created safe and open spaces where students could learn freely, ask questions confidently, and break social stigmas surrounding important health topics.

Understanding the importance of practical healthcare support, the project also focused on strengthening emergency preparedness within schools. Fully renovated and equipped first aid rooms were established at President’s College, Pilapitiya and Pamunuwila Maha Vidyalaya with the generous support of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society. In addition, certified first aid training programs were conducted for both students and teachers, empowering them with the skills and confidence needed to respond effectively during emergencies.

The project’s impact extended beyond schools into the wider community as well. A medical camp organized at the Homagama Pradeshiya Sabha provided healthcare services to nearly 100 community members with the support of medical professionals and Red Cross volunteers. Sanitary napkins were donated to young schoolgirls to promote menstrual dignity, while two sphygmomanometers were gifted to the Municipal Home for Elders and Children in Kotte. The organizing team also spent meaningful time engaging with the residents, reminding everyone that emotional care and human connection are equally important parts of healing.

Jeewadhara was further strengthened by the support of generous partners including The London Tea Exchange, Sri Lanka Red Cross Society, Medtallks, Buddha TV, Sunday Observer, Nawaloka Medicare, Lotus Family Clinic, and Sunsei Beach Negombo. Their collective support transformed a student-led initiative into a large-scale movement for community wellness.

More than just a healthcare project, Jeewadhara became a symbol of compassion, unity, and sustainable impact. It proved that true wellness is not simply the absence of illness, but the presence of awareness, preparedness, dignity, and care within a community. Through every awareness session, every donation, and every life touched, Project Jeewadhara carried one powerful message: healing truly has no boundaries.
