’TIS THE SEASON TO MINGLE – WITH THE MELLIFLUOUS MELODIES OF JINGLES…..
When the cool breeze of December brushes past gently, spreading joy, cheer and jubilation along with season’s greetings, the celebration of Christmas is witnessed all over the world. Just as how the Christmas tree would be remembered with the mere mentioning of ‘Christmas’, so would be the Christmas carols and the jingle melodies. Due to the challenging situation at the present times, physical gatherings are put on hold, resulting the whole world to discover new platforms to stay interconnected.
The magical ‘Jingle Eve’ of 2019 might not have been forgotten yet, right? Even if the present circumstances did not let us conduct it in 2020 in the same way that we did last year, the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya was able to recreate the magic once again through social media platforms with ‘Jingle Melodies’.
The project ‘Jingle Melodies’: a Christmas singing competition was organized by the avenue of club services of our club. While both Rotaractors and non-Rotaractors were invited to take part in this competition, registrations were opened from 13.12.2020 to 25.12.2020. They were provided with the opportunity to showcase their talents under solo and duet categories in both Sinhala and English mediums.
Although, the video submission period was initially dated from 18.12.2020 – 25.12.2020, considering the active participation, it was extended until 27.12.2020. These videos were posted on the YouTube channel of the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya, and the period of voting started from 29.12.2020 to 31.12.2020.
Emphasizing the theme ‘Jingle Melodies’, each and every video was indeed melodious and tuneful. The best singing video was selected by a qualified panel of judges, and three most popular videos were selected through the votes of viewers. Moreover, an e-certificate was awarded to every participant.
While the euphonious singing of Dinithi Lorensuhewa secured the title of the best video, Sandani Alahakoon, Dinithi Lorensuhewa and Ashani Chandi Malshika were placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively under the title of most popular video.
You can now watch the videos on our official Youtube channel.
This was not merely a Christmas singing competition, but also a great platform to showcase the talents while blending their soulful voices with mellifluous ‘jingle melodies’.
