A Tapestry of Moments: The 14th Installation Ceremony of the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya

The Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya unfurled a vivid tapestry of camaraderie, service, and new beginnings at its 14th Installation Ceremony, held on the 23rd of September 2023, at the Management Faculty Auditorium of the University of Kelaniya. This event marked yet another testament to the club’s enduring commitment to its mission of community service and its relentless pursuit of excellence since its chartering in 2010.

President 2023-24 of the Rotary Club of Colombo Uptown, Rotarian Delan Silva, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honor, while Dr. Ruwani Fernando, Head of the Department of Finance at the University of Kelaniya, adorned the event as the Chief Guest.

With the stage set, moderators took the reins, greeting the attendees with a warm smile and enthusiasm. With a solemn reverence, the oil lamp was ignited, its flames symbolizing the guiding light that Rotaract members provide to their community. The room bathed in its gentle glow, an embodiment of hope and service

Summoning the distinguished individuals to the head table, it marked a moment of transition. The Sergeant-at-Arms, Rtr. Yasith Dayarathne called the house to order. And, Rtr. Manula Pethiyagoda stepped forward, bearing the weight of a year’s worth of dedication. His speech marked both an ending and a new beginning, an ode to the growth and impact of the club. The melody of the national anthem filled the room, a reminder of the unity that underpins the Rotaract Club’s mission. Rtr. Senara Sudasinghe took the stage, narrating the club’s formalities with a sense of pride and ownership. Silence gave way to the harmonious strains of the Rotaract Anthem, a melody that bound hearts together in a shared purpose. a reminder of the power of togetherness. Project Chairperson, Rtr. Sapna Sewmini ‘s welcome speech painted a vision of projects and initiatives and were a testament to the potential of dreams and ideas.

Rtr. Verosha Abeygoonawardena took the audience on a journey through the club’s achievements, challenges, and the invaluable impact made over the past year. It was a story of growth, resilience, and unwavering commitment. In a montage of memories and moments, the year’s accomplishments unfolded on screen, a visual testament to the power of teamwork and service. Rtr. Manula Pethiyagoda’s heartfelt speech echoed with gratitude and pride, a farewell that marked the end of a remarkable tenure.

A new chapter began as the incoming president’s introduction and video offered a glimpse into the future, a future shaped by their vision and leadership. In a symbolic exchange, the gavel and charter certificate passed from one leader to another, an unbroken chain of service and dedication. The incoming President Rtr. Roshan Rathnayake, stepped into the spotlight, and his words were a beacon of inspiration, setting the course for the year ahead.

Afterwards, the new Board of Directors for the year 2023-24 were officially installed.

The stage was graced by the District Rotaract Representative Rtr. Past President Sathma Jayasinghe, whose words resonated with wisdom and inspiration. As the District Rotaract Representative, her speech was a testament to the club’s connection to a broader network of Rotaractors, underscoring the impact of their collective efforts.

After that, Dr. Chatura Liyanage, the Senior Treasurer, took the stage. Amidst the speeches, an enchanting entertainment event filled the air. Like a burst of color on a canvas, it refreshed the audience, captivating their senses and adding a touch of delight to the occasion.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Prof. Nilanthi Renuka de Silva, graced the ceremony with a video message wishing the newly appointed officials the best.

The Guest of Honor, Rtn. Delan Silva, President of the Rotary Club of Colombo Uptown, took the stage. His words were full of wisdom and encouragement, resonating with the essence of Rotary’s commitment to service and making a difference.

Next, Dr. Ruwani Fernando, the Chief Guest and Head of the Department of Finance at the University of Kelaniya, addressed the audience with grace.
