World Kindness Day

“Have Courage and be Kind”

Celebrated first in 1998 by the World Kindness Movement, World Kindness Day serves as an annual reminder on November 13th to prioritize compassion in our lives. It highlights good deeds in the community, focusing on the positive power and common thread of kindness that binds us. This day is celebrated in many countries as part of the Global Kindness Movement.

“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.”

Aesop

One interesting way to celebrate this day is by using ‘kindness cards.’ These are small cards with the message that it is now the recipient’s turn to pass on the card by doing a kind act for another person. A random act of kindness could create ripples with no end. It could be donating a book to the nearest library, giving blood, being an active listener, or leaving a positive message on a sticky note for others. There is no such thing as a small act of kindness. Kindness starts from within, and volunteering for a good cause is another way to spread kindness while making a difference.

This day is an opportunity to reflect on some of the most important traits one should have: empathy, compassion, and kindness. Let us try to promote and spread them not only on this day but every day for as long as we roam the earth. A small praise or a long hug could be the one act of kindness to change a person’s life. Kindness is a gift everyone can afford to give whenever it is possible, and it is always possible. In a world where kindness matters more than ever, be the change and create a ripple. Never hesitate to be kind to yourself and to others.
