“Thousands have lived without love, not one without water.”
-H. Auden-
Every year on the 22nd of March, the United Nations celebrates the World Water Day to raise awareness of the value of fresh water because life cannot survive without it. This year the World Water Day is about accelerating change to solve the water and sanitation crisis.
Many of the water systems that support a growing human population and maintain the life quality of ecosystems are under stress. More water is utilized for agriculture compared to any other use, and rivers are in danger from poorly constructed infrastructure like dams. Water and weather patterns are changing as a result of climate change, resulting in shortages and droughts in some regions and floods in others. Water insecurity, which currently affects 3.2 billion people, will therefore spread more widely. By 2050, according to the UN’s projections for climate change, more than 5 billion individuals could face water scarcity.
But here’s the thing, if all water users work together, we can manage and conserve this resource. Companies, governments at all levels and local communities must work together to guarantee that water is responsibly governed and shared. For that all levels of individuals should give their maximum effort to reach this goal successfully.
“If there is magic on this planet, it is contained in water.”
-Loren Eiseley-
We will greatly appreciate water after it is too late if we do not appreciate it now and take steps to preserve this valuable resource.
So let’s commemorate World Water Day today and every day.
Wishing a very Happy World Water Day to everyone!
