A collaborative initiative by the Rotaract Club of Thane East and the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya
As Virginia Wolf says in her famous quotation, food plays a salient role in humans’ lives. Thus, we, the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya while joining our twin club, the Rotaract Club of Thane East, have decided to initiate another exclusive project (a cook-off video and a food donation) in celebration of the World Food Day. The main objectives of such an initiative include experiencing the beauty of Indian cuisine while shaping ourselves as unique Rotaractors who are capable of understanding and eradicating hunger, poverty, and humanity. As its first step, members of the organizing committee were called on the 16th of October 2023. After having an Organizing Committee meet-up, we were able to confirm the name of the project which is “Culinary Kindness” and the dates for the food donation and the cook-off were decided on the 17th of October 2023. Therefore, by selecting Pav Bhaji which is a popular Indian street food, the cook-off was completed successfully on the 21st of October 2023. During its preparation, unity and enthusiasm were shown by all the members who were eager to taste Indian flavors. On the next day (22nd of October 2023), with immense support from the members of the organizing committee, a food donation campaign was held enthusiastically near the sacred Kelaniya temple. Rtr. Dilshan, one of the Public Relations coordinators shared his thoughts with others: “Working hand in hand, we collected and distributed food to those in need witnessing the gratitude on their faces”. Hence, after the completion of Culinary Kindness X Happy Meal, every participant walked on air while achieving the expected objectives. In addition, it taught them the importance of unity which is necessary to possess in the 21st century.
