As the sun enters Meena Rashiya (House of Pisces) to the Mesha Rashiya (House of Aries), families come together in a kaleidoscope of colors, smells, and sounds to prepare traditional delicacies, adorn their homes with intricate decorations, and engage in a myriad of cultural activities. It’s a time of renewal, hope, and unity, where the old is left behind, and the new is welcomed with open arms amidst a joyous and festive atmosphere.
And hence, in the spirit of celebrating togetherness and culture, the Club Service Avenue of the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya launched the exciting celebration known as Rota Wasantha Udanaya. This initiative aimed to bring the Rotaract family closer together and create cherished memories amidst the joyous moments of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations. From cultural activities to traditional delicacies, Rota Wasantha Udanaya was a delightful event leaving a lasting impression on all those who attend.
The vivid elegance of the most favorite season of the year awakened the cheery mood in Rotaractors with Rota Wasantha Udanaya on the 1st of May 2023 at the Ciril Mathew Ground. The day was owned a momentous event with so many delightful reminisces for every participant.
As the flickering oil lamp illuminated the atmosphere, the spark of celebration ignited, and the Rota Wasantha Udanaya event began with the time-honored tradition of ‘Kiri ithiraweema.’ It was a moment of pure bliss, where the Rotaract family came together to honor their cultural heritage and bask in the warmth of prosperity.
Rota Wasantha Udanaya was filled with merriment, and what better way to celebrate than by playing traditional games that have been passed down through the generations?
Thus the awrudu celebration of Rota Wasantha Udanaya included ‘Kana Mutti Bindeema,’ where blindfolded participants attempt to break a clay pot filled with goodies and indeed Rotaractors did break the challenge without even seeing it! The ‘Kamba Adeema,’ where participants teamed to engage in tug of war was one of the most remarkable games held as everyone gathered to cheer the endurance of the teams. As the ‘Kotta Pora’ game began action the ground filled with immense emblazon. Not limiting to them the organizing committee conducted a number of fun games resenting all participants the gift of laughter and entertainment. These traditional games brought Rotaractors together, fostering a spirit of camaraderie and healthy competition.
The organizing committee didn’t forget to add in the essence of music and dance which made Rota Wasantha Udanaya even more melodious.
The day was a testament to the immense development of collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills among all the participants at Rota Wasantha Udanaya. This was more than just an event to take a break from the rigors of academia; it was an opportunity to let loose, unwind, and create unforgettable memories while forging new friendships and connections.

The most awaited phase was selecting the Awurudu Kumara and Awurudu Kumari in Rota Wasantha Udanaya for 2023.Rtr. Kandakumar Ganagadaran and Rtr. Dewminie Fernando were crowned as the Awrudu Kumara and Kumarya respectively. The effort and hardworking of the entire organizing committee brought a splendid memory for each and every individual who did participate on 1st of May. It added a mesmerizing day to the Rotaract diary in the RI year 2022-23.
With the aroma of traditional delicacies filling the air and the sound of cultural performances echoing in the background, Rota Wasantha Udanaya was indeed a feast for the senses and a celebration for the soul.
