Rotaract Journey of Rtr. Sithika Himandith

I wasn’t really a volunteering person during my school days. But when I entered university, Thanuj had already joined the club, and registrations for that term were already closed. So my friends and I had to patiently wait for the next term (yes… patience).

Finally, when the avenue selection day came, I went to choose an avenue and guess what? Only SR was left. So… no options, I applied for it.
And honestly, I’m very proud to say that the avenue was filled with my department mates.

My first project was Down the Wicket ’24, where I worked as a Co-Chairperson alongside Namith and Mujitha. It was a softball cricket carnival with a DJ twist.
The day before the event? Absolutely unforgettable. We were carrying the backdrop in the middle of a crazy rainstorm at midnight.
Even on the event day, it rained heavily, but somehow, we managed to pull it off successfully.

After that, I was appointed as a Team Leader of the SR avenue. Our final project was Spotlight 3.0, a university and school-level singing competition. I worked as both the Project Coordinator and PR Head.
There were so many sleepless nights, but watching the contestants perform on stage made everything worth it.

A huge thank you to VP Shammi, Co-Director Thanuj, and Hashini akka for guiding us and being our backbone. And of course, my amazing friends Nethma, Dinith, Renuja, Kareema, Methmi, Minidu, and Dinendra who were always there.

During Rota Tomorrow 5.0, my co- TL was Pranama, and our mentor was Amali. We successfully carried out a project called Pariwarthana, and we were proud to become runners-up in the competition, along with 11 awards.
I was also honored to be awarded Most Enthusiastic Team Leader of the Term 24–25

Apart from these, I contributed to projects like TechExpo, Mehewara, Echoes of Ceylon, Wasantha Udanaya, Kalani Handawa, Click, and Farewell mainly through designing.

In the term 25–26, I was selected as a Co-Director of the Digital Media Avenue something I honestly didn’t plan at first. But here I am

And I got two amazing (and sometimes slightly annoying ) co-directors Yashodara and Nadeesha along with our ever-energetic overseeing EXCO member Kareema. Together, we didn’t just level up the avenue… we leveled up the entire club.

Our first project was Media Spark 2.0, a workshop series covering Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and After Effects.
Then came the 16th Installation, our first major responsibility handling design and I think we really showed what we were capable of.

After that, we launched the club’s official media unit RêvouX
From photography and videography to technical handling and design, we covered it all.

Our first big project under RêvouX was handling PR for Mr. & Miss University, an inter-university pageant.
Then came Career Fair ’26, along with podcasts, aftermovies, and many more.
And yes we even launched our own website.

Finally, our last major project was Pixels an inter-university graphic designing competition, organized for the first time in the club’s history.

Now, about my co-directors…

Yashodara,  the Canva queen. Absolute pro. Hats off.
But during Rota Tomorrow 6.0, somehow our 3 directors became 2… because one mysteriously disappeared.
Plot twist: we later found her in RT team. Now she seems to have forgotten she’s part of a technical avenue.

Nadeesha,  our technical guy.
But also the guy who asks “ada mokadda thiyenne?” exactly when the meeting is about to start
Still, thanks to him, the avenue survived (barely).

And Kareema, our powerhouse
Super energetic, super hardworking… sometimes doing all three of our jobs.
Also famous for introducing brand-new Sinhala words that confuse and slightly scare us at times

Special mention to club Madhawa, our 24/7 DM support system (free of charge… but complains about pricing all the time).

And the “podi DM” team Indusara, Pamodya, and Thilini  always supporting us (though sometimes harder to find than hidden treasure).

When it comes to designing, I’m genuinely proud to say that many project logos were created by me.

This journey was filled with sleepless nights, dedication, arguments, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
And honestly, this will be one of the most remarkable phases of my university life.

I’m truly glad I made the decision to join Rotaract  and even more grateful to have taken up a Director role.

Viva La Rotaract!
