Beyond the Border – Phase II

“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”

“Daan Utsav” formerly known as the “Joy of Giving Week”, is a festival of philanthropy in India aiming to spread love and happiness among the less fortunate in their country. Launched in 2009, the festival is devoid of any religious or mythical history and is celebrated for a week starting from Gandhi Jayanti every year. What makes Daan Utsav unique is the fact that it is a festival which is not controlled by anyone. Every year it is initiated by a group of volunteers and millions of people from different social spectrums participate. They celebrate this festival by giving tangible things such as money and material as well as intangible things such as time and skills.

Rotaract Club of NSIT Regency is one of the volunteering parties who took initiative for Daan Utsav for year 2016 by organizing a collection drive, where people could donate items which are newly bought or in a usable condition. The collection drive lasted from 3rd to 7th October 2016 and the collected items were donated to the NGO Jagriti based in Dwarka which supports and educates underprivileged children living in the slums. Moreover they also encouraged people to celebrate the festive spirit at home by helping the less fortunate they come across in their day-to-day life.
