Little Lights

Project Serve is a Rotaract District project done in each month to mark the Poya days. The project “Little Lights” (Serve Phase 11) was organized by the Rotaract Clubs of University of Kelaniya, ANC and University Alumni, together with the Rotaract District 3220. The program was organized to spend time with the children of the Sri Jinananda children’s home, an under-privileged orphanage located in Wellawatte. During our visit on the 15th of May with more than 30 rotaractors, we shared the joy and happiness with them. The program for the day was planned in a way to give back something with all the fun. We had a game session where most of the games were to build the team spirit.

Since it was the month of Wesak, we selected a children’s home to share the joy of the season. We had a pre visit to the orphanage and we were told about their requirements and while talking to the children we understood that they wanted to play, sing and dance. Therefore the program for the day was planned in a way that the children would enjoy.

The evening snack was provided for them and thereafter we had a time of sing-a- long to end the day’s program. In addition, bedsheets, pillow cases, towels, whiteboard & markers, CFL bulbs, wall fans were also donated, as they were in need of those.

Rotaract has always been a good opportunity to give something back to the society. Keeping that on mind we were able to light up the lives of those beautiful souls with the ambition and the thought of them having a better future.
