World Day of War Orphans

A war can start in any part of the world, and up until now, some parts of the world have always been fighting harshly against a group for their rights. Most importantly, war does not spare even the smallest social unity of family.

The primary and crucial unit of society, the family is the safest place for a child to grow up, sharing love and affection and acquiring all their needs. Unluckily, the family unit can be shattered whenever war is encountered, causing the children to suffer losing their family and resulting in them seeking their lives in a risky environment.

It is quite obvious that children are the most susceptible as war victims due to parental loss. Thus, with the pure intention of providing the orphaned children with a prospect of life securing their future, the French organization “SOS Enfants en Detresses” initiated the World Day of War Orphans.

According to UNICEF, an orphan is a child under 18 years of age who has lost one or both parents due to any cause of death, and the statistics reveal that around 140 million orphans can be identified globally, especially from Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

As a result, the World Day of War Orphans is commemorated on January 6th each year to raise global awareness about the pathetic plight of orphaned children who struggle to survive in war conditions all over the world and to design a safe environment for them to grow up in.

Let’s take a glimpse at SOS projects launched by the French organization in which a quality life is shared among orphan children in every part of the world.

The established SOS villages consist of families, including an SOS mother and children, sharing affection, avoiding the hardships of being deserted, and providing them with every requirement a child seeks at an early age.

All in all, it is our collective duty to uplift the mental, physical, and social levels of orphaned children and ensure the world is safe for them to live in.
