Success Doesn’t Just Come and Find You. You Have To Go Out and Get it!”

Glass Ice, a gathering for young leaders, was organized by the Rotaract Club of University of Colombo, Faculty of Management and Finance together with the Leo club of Negombo Host 306 B1 on the 9th of Ocotober, at the Expert city, Maradana. It enabled all participants to interact with four well known, internationally recognized speakers, namely Mr.Kishu Gomes, Ms.Selyn Peiris, Mr.Dulith Herath and Mr.Dananjaya Hettiarachchi. Representing our club Rtr. Pemalka Premaratne, Rtr. Malindu Senadeera and Rtr. Chiranthi Thilakaratne participated the event.

Mr.Kishu Gomes, the CEO/Managing Director of Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC, and Managing Director of Chevron Ceylon Limited, throughout his speech empowered us to not only compete with anyone else but with our own selves and that you need to discover your potential in order to realize your dreams, which was accompanied with a Q&A session.

Ms.Seyln Peiris, who is an Attorney at law and consultant (Social Buisness and Livelihood Development) and a successful entrepreneur of Seyln Exports (Pvt) Ltd had an interactive session on Social Enterprise and Social Entrepreneurship. She stressed on the fact that thinking out of the box and thinking different is always the key to success and that being normal is boring! She bought in her real life examples so that it would easily help us realize that becoming successful is not difficult but it is all up to you and that you need to think out of the box in order to make your dreams a reality.

Mr. Dulith Herath, the award winning CEO and founder of Kapruka and “The king of Sri Lankan E-Commerce” based his speech mainly on sustainability and pointed out on the fact that in order to differentiate yourself from your competitors “Innovation” would be the key drive. He, himself stated that he has gone through a lot in the past few years to become who he is today.

The world champion of public speaking in 2014, Mr.Dananjaya Hettiarachchi who was the key note speaker for the evening brought in more humor and excitement to the event with his thoughts on how to bring out the champ in you. Mr.Dananjaya too, shared the struggles he went through to have become what he is today, inspiring thousands of individuals with his motivational speeches. He ended his speech with his most famous quote,” I see something in you. But I don’t know what it is.’

These four remarkable individuals were able to make the evening a memorable one for all the participants who attended the event and they captivated our hearts to strive for more self-improvement and to yearn for success in our lives from a very early age. It was indeed an evening well spent and without a doubt it was convinced to all who were present. The event was a massive success and three cheers to the organizers of this amazing event.
