The best classroom in the world is at the feet of an elderly person.
~ Andy Roony.
It is needless to blabber over the countless value of elders since we’ve heard an earful on the subject even though the practice of what has been preached is questionable sometimes. Therefore as a club committed to inspire the society through action, the Rotaract Club of University of Peradeniya had organized “Sathkara ‘ 19” Phase 1, in which we joined hand in hand with them on the 6th of October 2019 at Sarana Sewana Elders’ Home – Mawilmada.
What a happiness it was to see the contented smiles of the elders throughout the day we spent with them! The words we shared with them, the games we played, the songs we sang will brighten our cherished memories reminding of a day filled with love.
The tree plantation was another significant moment of the event since we planted nearly 25 plants as an investment for the future. Moreover, the elders joined us enthusiastically for the singing session where we sang their favourite songs of the artists Clarence, Jothipala and Milton.
We had collected donations for them including dry rations and sanitary items and handed them over with great delight at the end of the event.
We were happy to put our sweat and strength into the cleaning session of the surroundings at the end of the day.
It was indeed a day well spent for a great purpose. We make this an opportunity to express our love and admiration to the Rotaract club of University of Peradeniya for organizing such a great project and we wish them all the best for the upcoming phases!
